This course is focused on participatory planning as a valuable community process. We are undergraduate students working with the students at Casey Middle School on sustainable design ideas, both in general, and specifically for their new school that will be built in the next few years.
This semester, we are working with Casey Middle School Students in an afterschool program called "School Design Club". The intent of the afterschool program is two-fold: to teach the Casey students about sustainable design and planning principles and also to get their ideas for the new Casey building.
During the first six weeks of the semester we have been learning about participatory planning and designpractices and are really excited to put some of what we have learned into action. Since we have 20 CU students in our class, we are going to break the School Desgin Club into two days, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with about 10 of us attending each day. Essentially we will do the same thing each of those days, but we also want our activities to reflect what the Casey students want to do so this may change as we go.
Please enjoy reading our reflections and feel free to make comments if you read something interesting or if you have questions. Thanks!
